The most signifcant abridgement of Liberty in the history of the USA is the Government Takeover Of Healthcare. While the House of Representatives has passed a version of this Bill (a term for a piece of legislation that has never seemed so appropriate as it does this year) and the Senate has voted yes on cloture (which means a time limit is placed on debate over an item in order to avoid a filibuster), this is not a finalized issue yet. It most certainly has not become law yet.
The Senate has yet to debate The Government Takeover Of Healthcare, and they will begin debate on Monday November 30th, 2009. After the debate is concluded, the Senate will vote on whatever version of the Bill that they reach before their vote.
After that, if there is a Senate version of the Bill, it will go to a Conference Committee where the differences in the House of Representatives version and the Senate version will be reconciled before the final version of the Bill heads back to the House of Representatives for a vote on the final version.
Why am I writing this civics lesson? Because even though the Old Media has recently ignored the pending Government Takeover of Healthcare and ignored the associated losses of Liberty and Freedom throughout this process, there is still time to do something about it.
If this becomes law in any form, it WILL be the beginning of the end for the USA as a Constitutional Republic.
Currently the Old Media is offering many diversions, everything from the civilian trial of Khalid Sheikh Muhammed to the Gatecrashers at the White House State Dinner to the revelations on the political nature of Cap-and-Trade "research" to many other things dominating the "news cycle". Some of these things are important to be aware of as well and some not so much, but in regard to the future of The USA, none have the relevance that The Government Takeover Of Healthcare does.
Please do not let a day of the week (or weekend) go by without contacting your Senators and Representative. Every day. It IS that important.
In addition, consider a run for office at any level, including central committee. Identify if your elected officials at every level merit your support or opposition, and prepare a plan to take action to implement that support or opposition.
We may lose our Republic yet. If we somehow do keep our Republic, we will never again have the luxury of not making our elected representatives accountable on a daily basis for their actions. Never again will civic duty include only voting whenever the polls are open. It will be crucial going forward to actively demand representation and actively particpate in the the total process.
FOR NOW, THE TOP PRIORITY IS TO KEEP OUR REPUBLIC. Avoid distraction and stay focused and active. Contact your Senators TODAY (Saturday) and TOMORROW (Sunday) by fax or leave a voice mail or in whatever way you can, and continue to do so into next week. BRING AS MUCH PRESSURE TO BEAR ON THE US SENATE AS POSSIBLE. This bill can still be defeated.
