Here's a scan of a National Geographic article from 1976 that speculates on global cooling and a possible Ice Age (click to enlarge). The last sentence on page 614 (which continues onto page 615) reads "A mile-high wall of ice advancing down the Hudson Valley toward Manhattan's Towers?"
